Design Workshop Results Survey

Below is a link to a survey and images that resulted from the May 17th and May 18th, 2017 Design Workshop with FEH Design, the Library Board of Trustees, and the Library Expansion Advisory Task Force. The designs created were based off of criteria created by the Advisory Task Force, members of the public, recommendations from Library Consultant Anders Dahlgren, as well as library board and staff.When the design workshop was done, those attending the design workshop narrowed down the options from 22 designs, to four, then selected the two designs you see below on the final day. 

Because this is an ongoing creative process, we want to hear more feedback from our community. Please fill out the survey using the link below or stop by the library and fill out a hard copy.

Conceptual Design B.1.1Conceptual Design K.1

Design Option B1.1 was the most popular design, as voted on by those in attendance at the May workshop. The building meets the recommended square footage (21,500 sq feet), and extends greenspace across part of 10th street along with drive-up book drop. This design was created based on a request from a members of the public who wanted to see what more greenspace around the library would look like. Click HERE to see the image enlarged.

Design K.1 was the second most popular design at the workshop. The floor plan is the same as B1.1, but does not include the greenspace across 10th street. *Please note: because the floorplan meets the recommended space for meeting rooms, this design would no longer incorporate use of the community center to replace meeting space in the library as depicted in the picture above. Below is the first conceptual design of what the possible floor plan would look like. This first draft will continue to evolve as we continue on with the creative process of the building design:

Past Updates for the Library Expansion Project

In February 2016, the Frances Banta Waggoner Community Library Board of Trustees hired Anders Dahlgren of Library Planning Associates, Inc. to conduct a service and space needs assessment for the existing library. 

On January 9th, 2017, the library board conducted interviews of four architect firms, selecting FEH Design to move forward with the project. FEH Design is located in Dubuque, IA and has an extensive portfolio that includes many library building projects. More information about FEH Design can be found here
